Why Go Bald?
Balding is typically a man’s problem. However, women aren’t completely in the clear regarding this matter. Though the ladies don’t lose as much hair like some men do, hair loss remains to be a challenge for some.
Why does this happen?
There’s several reasons why this is so. First, it’s part of the normal hair cycle. The hair grows for 4-6 years (anagen phase), rests about 2-4 months (telogen phase) and is later pushed out by the new hair shaft. Second, it may be due to stress alopecia or hair loss due to stress. Upsets in the system will cause stress to the follicles. These accelerate the hair cycle to the telogen phase which is then followed by substantial hair loss. Possible shocks to the system may include:
- Abrupt hormone fluctuations
- Pregnancy
- Ceasing birth control pills
- High fever
- Physical injury, surgery or psychological trauma
- Excessive dieting
- Diabetes
- Chemotherapy
- Blood pressure and depression medications
